Professional, ethical, confidential … etc.

Honestly, I think no matter how many times you see those terms during your undergrad or postgrad studies, at the end of the day, it is a matter of how much do you care as a professional worker to implement them in your actual daily routine of work!

As a Dentist, I spent great time during my studies focusing on those pillars or fundamentals of work. It was mainly due to the strickt environment of work, we were not allowed to leave before scrubbing every single small drop of blood or saliva from every instrument , drying them, pouching them in the small sterilization pouchs and then handling them with our names to the nurses, they used to double check our work to make sure we treat cleanly ! , Working units needed to be disinfected and wiped, with infectious diseases, it needed to be sterilized not less than 24hr , our lab coats needed to be washed and ironed if not on daily basis then at least every 2 to 3 days. Patients, despite they were mainly simple hard workers with little money to offer advanced dental treatments were getting a very luxurious care as we were supposed to treat equally and ethically to every single patient who sit on our dental chairs …

Years later, i realized this discipline of treating ethically and professionally depends mainly on you as a person … you cannot see this in every single working day !

I, usually do not accept doing things or treat people in a way when i do not like to experience or being treated in the same way, myself …

I cannot imagine having a 70 years old patient with dementia, who barley could take care of his/her teeth because of their illness, and comes with mountains of dental plaque and treat them with an instrument then dismiss them to let a 6 years old child sit on the the same chair only to be treated with the same contaminated instrument without giving a f@ in the world about all the consequences or the potential infection this baby,toddler, child, teen might go through just because of a simple carless decision or laziness !

As much as we all have sometimes problems or stressful situations in our personal lives, i cannot imagine though being extra Okay about those things without thinking about all the consequences it might cause others later. At the beginning, everything might seems okay , it is easy to do and let out ! Yet later, the consequences, the problems, the issues, the complains might be extreme …

As much as my discipline sometimes put me in very critical situations, specially when i get asked to do sth without paying any attention to the hygiene or treatment guidelines … etc. i always give myself sometime to think and spit out the truth of my decisions rather than doing sth to satisfy my own “Boss” demands …

Yes, it might cause sometimes distressful events, losing a job, or having a harsh day in dealing with very unnecessary comments … i though honestly believe that the long term can pay for it!Those who build their lives on lies , fraud or even taking advantage of a certain situation cannot have it forever …

I am happy and proud about my way of discipline in taking responsibility toward every single person i meet, and glad that i have this trait of being flexible and open in learning and listening from others, even at certain times taking commands … as long as it does not violate any morals, ethical or professional guidelines or basics in treating patients !
